So tell me why?

Thank you for stopping by to check on Janet and her latest adventure!

You are probably shaking your head asking why does a 50 something year old beautiful lady want to swim 3.5 miles in open water.   Well... I could simply say that it is has been on her bucket list for quite some time, but honestly I think she is suffering from an endorphin addiction.  Of course any reason or addiction that will get me to St John, I support!  So welcome to our Team, "Swim Janet Swim" which currently comprises of Janet doing the swimming, Big Tom handing out the towels, and all the friends and family who have so generously supported our fundraising for the Friends of the Virgin Islands National Park.

Janet is not a novice when it comes to long swims.   She has done distance swimming events at our local YMCA, and last year with our daughter they participated in the Sharkfest swim.  Swimming the 2 miles across the Potomac River she was able to accomplish a childhood dream.  On a warm Memorial Day, she and Bridget swam from Maryland to Virginia parallel to the Harry Nice Bridge.  The water was yucky, there was a nasty cross current, and some of the support boats at idle were releasing fuel fumes into the air and water.  It was not an enjoyable trip, but a successful one!  The advantage of a river swim, one can stick their head up and see the finish.  That will not be the case in the St John Beach to Beach Power Swim.

For those familiar with St John, the swim will start at Maho Bay and complete in Hawknest Bay.

There are three different distances for a swimmer to challenge.

The Starting Line Maho Bay

The first is a 1 mile event, which starts at Maho beach and ends at Cinnamon beach.  The second also starts at Maho, but when the swimmer gets to Cinnamon they are routed back out to sea and around the point.

The swimmers choosing to do the intermediate course will complete their 2.25 mile swim at the famous Virgin Island picture location, Trunk Bay.

Trunk Bay - What can I say... beautiful

Finally, those that have chosen to do the 3.5 mile event will swim the same course as the others, but once they get to Trunk they are routed back out again.

Almost there!

This is the home stretch - around the point and past Gibney Beach to the finish line!   If all goes well, Janet will find me at Hawknest Beach with a big smile, holding a beach towel, a large Gatorade.

I know some of you are curious what I will be doing while Janet swims.

I will have to think of something
